Why businesses use us
Scoped before we start
We walk the site, understand the brief and quote fixed-price where we can. No daywork blowouts.
Crew that shows up
We have the team to resource commercial jobs properly. Not a one-man band that disappears mid-job.
Documented and compliant
All work is done to AS/NZS 3000:2018. Certificates issued, test results recorded, sign-off provided.
Ongoing relationship
Most commercial clients are on a call-out arrangement. One number, consistent crew, no re-briefing every time.
Switchboard work we do
- Safety switch (RCD) installation — required on all power and lighting circuits
- Fuse to circuit breaker upgrades — replace ceramic fuses with modern breakers
- Switchboard replacement — old board replaced with new switchboard enclosure
- Additional circuits added for new appliances (AC, EV charger, oven)
- Sub-board installation for granny flats, sheds and garages
- Mains cable upgrades — from 25A to 63A service where required
- Load calculations to confirm your supply handles your current draw
- Inspection reports and compliance certificates issued
When your switchboard needs attention
You still have ceramic fuses
Fuse wire can’t protect like a modern circuit breaker. If you’re still rewiring fuses, it’s time to upgrade.
No safety switch on your board
In Queensland, RCDs are required on all new work. An unprotected board is a safety gap worth fixing.
Breakers tripping regularly
Nuisance tripping often means an overloaded circuit or a failing breaker. We’ll diagnose before we quote.
Adding high-draw appliances
New AC, EV charger, induction cooktop or heat pump hot water all need dedicated circuits. We size and install.
Safety and compliance work
- Smoke alarm compliance — hardwired interconnected alarms per QLD legislation
- Safety switch (RCD) testing — annual testing to AS/NZS 3017
- Home electrical safety inspections — full property assessment
- Pre-purchase electrical inspections — know what you’re buying
- Pre-sale compliance — ensure your property meets requirements before listing
- Rental property compliance — landlord obligations met and documented
- Electrical fault finding — isolate and fix intermittent or ongoing faults
- Certificate of Electrical Safety issued on all regulated work
QLD smoke alarm legislation changed in 2022. All homes sold or leased now require interconnected photoelectric alarms on every level. We install the compliant solution and issue documentation for your records.
Why compliance matters
Smoke alarm legislation
Since January 2022, all Queensland homes for sale or lease must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. Non-compliance risks your settlement.
RCD protection
Safety switches save lives. Annual testing catches faults before they become emergencies. We test and record the results.
Pre-purchase peace of mind
A $300 electrical inspection can save you from a $30,000 rewire surprise. We inspect, report and advise honestly.
Landlord obligations
As a Queensland landlord you have ongoing electrical obligations. We handle compliance and give you the paperwork you need.
Local enough to know
what Brisbane homes need.
Older Queenslanders with knob-and-tube, post-war homes with undersized switchboards, modern builds adding EV chargers — we’ve done the full range across the south-side and beyond.
Older Homes
Pre-1980 homes often have undersized switchboards, ceramic fuses and no safety switches. We upgrade safely without unnecessary rewiring.
EV Charging
Home EV charger installation from quote to commissioning. We size the circuit, install the charger and issue the CES.
Solar Ready
We work alongside our solar team to ensure your switchboard and circuits are ready for battery and solar upgrades.
Smoke Alarms
Queensland legislation requires interconnected photoelectric alarms since 2022. We install, replace and certify compliant systems.
What Brisbane customers
say after the job.
4.9 stars on Google. Here’s what real customers say about having our crew on site.
“Booked to have a new switchboard installed and they were on time, professional and explained everything clearly. The old fuse board is gone and the new one looks great. Certificate came through the same afternoon.”
“Had CK ESA out to install downlights throughout the house and do a smoke alarm upgrade. Crew were tidy, fast and knew what they were doing. Lights look amazing and I’ve got peace of mind on the smoke alarms.”
“Used these guys for a full electrical fitout on our new commercial tenancy. They worked around our fit-out schedule, got the power and data in on time and the site passed inspection first go. Would use them again without hesitation.”
“Had an intermittent fault that kept tripping one of my circuits. Other electricians couldn’t find it. CK ESA diagnosed it properly, found a loose connection in the wall that was arcing, and fixed it same visit. Exactly what you want from an electrician.”

Electrical Services FAQ
Common questions from Brisbane homeowners and businesses
Residential electrical work in Brisbane typically starts at $150–$250 for a standard call-out and first hour of work, then $120–$180 per hour thereafter. Fixed-price quotes are available for defined scope jobs — switchboard upgrades, EV charger installations, solar connections and new circuits. CKESA always provides a written quote before starting work. After-hours emergency rates apply outside standard business hours. All pricing includes GST and the relevant compliance certificate.
Yes. Under Queensland law, all electrical work — including installing power points, changing light fittings, running new circuits, switchboard work and solar connections — must be performed by a licensed electrician. DIY electrical work is illegal in Queensland and can void your home insurance. CKESA holds Electrical Contractors Licence ECL 92934 issued by the Queensland Electrical Safety Office. Every completed job receives a Certificate of Test (compliance certificate) for your records.
A standard switchboard upgrade in Brisbane typically takes 4–6 hours. This includes replacing the existing switchboard with a modern safety switch (RCD) equipped board, upgrading wiring connections, labelling all circuits and testing the complete installation. Power will be off to the property for most of this time. We schedule switchboard upgrades to minimise disruption and always restore power before leaving site. A compliance certificate is issued on completion.
A safety switch (Residual Current Device or RCD) detects electrical faults and cuts power within milliseconds — fast enough to prevent electrocution. In Queensland, safety switches are required on all power circuits in residential properties. Many older Brisbane homes still have switchboards without adequate RCD protection. CKESA strongly recommends testing your existing safety switches annually (press the test button — if it doesn’t trip, call us) and upgrading older switchboards that lack proper protection.
Yes — EV charger installation is one of our growing service areas. A home EV charger (7kW single-phase or 22kW three-phase) requires a dedicated circuit from your switchboard, an appropriate cable run to the garage or driveway, and the charger unit itself. Installation typically takes 2–4 hours. If your switchboard is older, we may recommend upgrading it at the same time. We can also integrate EV charging with a Sigenergy solar-battery system for optimised solar charging.
For genuine electrical emergencies — burning smell, complete power loss, sparking outlets, tripped safety switches that won’t reset — call us on (07) 3392 9067. We serve Brisbane and South-East Queensland. For after-hours emergencies, after-hours rates apply. If you smell burning or see sparking, turn off the main switch at your switchboard and call us immediately. Do not attempt to investigate electrical faults yourself.
